The Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro has won a court order suspending the
fingerprinting of US visitors, however the security measure remained in
force following a government decree.
Rio wanted the security measure to be suspended as it claimed it would harm
tourism. The judge decided to award the order but left the final decision on
continuing the fingerprinting up to the federal government, which ruled that
it would keep the system in place.
The system will now remain in place for at least 30 days while a panel
reviews immigration rules, reported Reuters.
